Our Veterinarians

Dr. Allison Naito

Owner, Veterinarian

Dr. Allison Naito was fascinated by nature as a child—she was constantly observing all the animal life she could find, from grasshoppers and toads to rabbits and birds. It didn’t take long for her to realize that a career in the world of veterinary care would suit her well. Now, Dr. Naito has been serving the area’s pet lovers as the owner and chief veterinarian of Huntington Pet Vet for over 30 years.

Born in Washington State, Dr. Naito grew up in Southern California before starting her studies at Orange Coast College. She transferred to the University of California-Riverside to major in entomology before being accepted into veterinary school at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Naito graduated in 1981, completed an internship at Auburn University, then moved back home and founded Huntington Pet Vet in 1985. She’s been serving the pet owners of the area alongside her talented staff ever since.

Dr. Naito has one son, Justin, a college student who is interested in computers and video-game design. When she isn’t enjoying time with family, working in her garden, or caring for pets here at the clinic, Dr. Naito likes spending time with her own pets at home. She has three dogs named Chewy, Baby, and Dilly, a cat named Motoo, tortoises, and koi fish.

Dr. Anna Benington

Associate Veterinarian

Ever since she was young, Dr. Anna Benington felt a connection with animals and quickly developed a personal understanding of the bond between humans and animals. Dr. Benington knew that a career in veterinary medicine, in which she could not only improve pets’ quality of life but strengthen the human-animal connection, was the only choice for her.

Born and raised here in Huntington Beach, Dr. Benington began her pet-care career at the age of 14 when she signed on as an animal caretaker at a local pet store. She attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara to earn her undergraduate degree in biology, then relocated to Australia to attend veterinary school at the University of Melbourne.

Dr. Benington completed a short externship here at Huntington Pet Vet during her final year of veterinary school, and was invited to join the practice as an Associate Veterinarian after graduation. She’s been serving the pets and animal owners of the area ever since, and has special interests in dermatology, ultrasonography, and internal medicine cases.

Outside of work, Dr. Benington enjoys staying active by running, playing soccer, and using the cardio machine at the gym. She’s also completed multiple half-marathons and a full marathon.

When she isn’t exercising or tending to the needs of pets here at the hospital, Dr. Benington enjoys spending time with her husband, Josh, and their newborn son, Noah. The family shares their home with two St. Bernards named Tiny and Mackenzie.

Dr. David Munson

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. David Munson has had a love for the medical field ever since he was young. After working on an Alaskan dairy farm for two years, he had a realization: he could combine his passion of practicing medicine with his affinity for animals by working in the veterinary care field.

Dr. Munson is originally from Alhambra, California. After working in Alaska, he attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota and remained in the state to start his career. Dr. Munson owned his own small-animal veterinary practice in Golden Valley for 20 years before moving back to California with his wife. He joined the Huntington Pet Vet family in early 2008, and has special interests in diagnostics and surgery. Dr. Munson also holds an Associate’s degree in mechanics.

Dr. Munson and his wife have five children and share their home with a trio of cats, a beagle, and a French bulldog. In his time away from work, he enjoys painting, playing racquetball, and golfing.

Dr. Vallie Polk

Associate Veterinarian

Growing up in a small Mississippi town, Dr. Vallie Polk always loved watching the local veterinarian work on her family’s horses. When she started working in several animal clinics during her high school years, one thing became clear: Dr. Polk wanted to become a veterinary professional herself. Now, she helps the pets and animal owners of Huntington Beach as a licensed veterinarian.

Dr. Polk attended Mississippi College and Mississippi State University for her undergraduate studies before being accepted to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating in 2001, she worked in small- and large-animal practices before moving to Washington State for her husband’s job, where she served at a mixed-animal practice. In 2005, she moved with her family again to Southern California, and joined the Huntington Pet Vet family shortly afterward.

Medically, Dr. Polk enjoys internal medicine and surgery work. Most of all, she loves meeting new patients and getting to know their owners on a personal basis.

In her time away from the clinic, Dr. Polk enjoys hiking, mountain biking, paddle-boarding, and spending time with her family and pets. Along with her husband Troy, an endodontist who works in Los Alamitos, she shares her home with her three children, a dog who goes by P.D., and a pair of cats named Dobby and Franklin.
